KUWAIT CITY, Oct 31, (Agencies): The General Authority for Telecommunications and Information Technology announced on Tuesday the release of a draft document called "Caller ID Definition" on its website for public review and feedback before official adoption. The aim of this feature is to reduce fraudulent calls.
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the authority mentioned that this service allows the recipient of a call to identify the names of institutional entities (governmental, private companies, and banks) on devices operating on mobile networks in Kuwait. This initiative follows several studies conducted to highlight the significance of this service in combating fraudulent calls and ensuring user security by confirming that incoming calls are from reliable sources.
The authority also highlighted its efforts to identify critical sectors prioritized for the implementation of this initiative, taking into account the impact of electronic fraud campaigns targeting the country.
The statement quoted the Chairman of the Authority's Board, Omar Al-Omar, stating that this initiative reflects the authority's commitment to enhancing the security and quality of services in the telecommunications sector while curbing electronic fraud attempts that target users. Al-Omar added that the authority has instructed telecommunication companies to initiate the necessary tests to ensure the readiness of their networks and service quality.
The draft has been published on the authority's official website for public participation, allowing individuals from various sectors to provide their opinions and feedback. It will be available for review on the website until November 29.
