Ministry urges conservation as electricity crisis persists

Planned power outages to impact Rawdatain, Wafra, and more.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy continued with a series of planned power cuts affecting agricultural and industrial areas to stabilize the country’s electrical system. The outages will impact Rawdatain, Wafra, Abdali, Abdullah Port, Subhan, Amghara Scrap, Sulaibiya Industrial, Al-Rai, and Shuwaikh Industrial areas.

The electricity crisis resurfaced on Sunday, with numerous residential areas across the six governorates experiencing intermittent power cuts. This situation arose following a malfunction in the fuel supply on Saturday, which led to the failure of several electricity generation units at the Al-Subiya and Doha West power and water distillation stations, according to the Ministry's official statement.

In response to the crisis, the Ministry of Electricity announced that it may need to implement further power cuts in high-energy-use areas to ensure system stability. The ministry has urged residents to conserve electricity, particularly during peak hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and to adhere to its guidelines.

The Ministry has committed to providing updates on the status of the electricity network as they become available.
