Kuwait’s Pushes for Calorie Regulations in Restaurants and Cafes

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19: The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council has decided to forward a letter from the Governor of the Capital, Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali, to the municipality's executive body. The letter proposes the establishment of a mechanism to require restaurants and cafes to adhere to calorie limits, with the committee requesting a detailed study on the matter. During its meeting, chaired by Munira Al-Amir, the committee also referred a "support request" to the relevant authority, seeking approval for the inclusion of pharmacies in fuel stations as part of small and medium-sized projects funded by the National Fund. Additionally, the committee approved the reorganization of a section of Plot 3 in the East area, specifically the remaining part of one of the properties. However, it postponed a decision on a proposal by Abdul Latif Al-Da’i and Sherifa Al-Shalfan regarding the study of utilizing water collection basins and rainwater drainage channels in Kuwait. Lastly, the committee was briefed on a report outlining a scientific perspective on the vision for tourism in Kuwait.
