KUWAIT CITY, Oct 22: The Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) has granted an international accreditation certificate for molecular testing to the laboratories of Sheikha Salwa Al-Sabah Stem Cell and Umbilical Cord Center. Director of the Blood Transfusion Services Department at the Ministry of Health Dr. Reem Al- Radwan affirmed this accreditation is a significant step in the field of stem cell therapy, considering it guarantees that laboratories follow the strictest safety and quality standards in examination and treatment procedures. She added this international certification boosts the confidence of patients and healthcare providers since it guarantees that laboratories follow stringent regulatory requirements and produce accurate and trustworthy results. She explained that accredited laboratories use modern technologies that have been verified and follow the best international practices, which reduce the risk of contamination and ensure the safety of stem cell products. She stressed as well that this accreditation opens new horizons to start programs for collecting stem cells and umbilical cord cells.

This is a fundamental step towards developing innovative and effective treatments, she asserted. She revealed the laboratories of the center are the first in the Arab world and the second worldwide -- outside of the United States of America -- to obtain this accreditation. She believes such an accomplishment will have a huge impact on improving patient treatment outcomes, scientific research and the legitimacy of stem cell-based treatments in the medical community. Meanwhile, Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity (SACGC) announced on Tuesday opening registration for the virtual orientation meeting organized by the prestigious Johns Hopkins University.

The orientation will introduce the University’s scientific enrichment programs for distinguished Kuwaiti students from ages 15 to 17. In a statement to KUNA, SACGC Director General Neda Al-Daihani said the orientation would provide the students with useful information necessary for the fields of science and technology at the University. Al-Daihani called on all gifted students from the aforementioned age group to seize the “rare opportunity” that would enable them to improve their academic and scientific skills in the fields to come. He pointed out that this is would be the second orientation held between the Center and the American University, reflecting the success and cooperation in providing high-quality workshops to students.
