'Leaving a child under 10 unattended in a parked vehicle is now a violation'
New penalties for leaving children unattended in cars

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 3: Brigadier Mohammed Al-Subhan, head of the "Unified Gulf Traffic Week 2025" Committee, explained that leaving a child under the age of ten unattended in a parked vehicle while the driver steps out for any reason is considered a traffic violation. He stressed that an adult must remain with the child in the vehicle at all times.

If the child is harmed in such a situation, the driver will be held accountable under the Child Protection Law. Penalties may include a prison sentence of up to six months, a fine of 500 dinars, or both. Brigadier Al-Subhan also emphasized that children under ten should always sit in the back seat and be properly secured with appropriate safety measures.

He noted that such violations are issued by traffic officials directly and are not detected by artificial intelligence cameras. However, modern cameras with artificial intelligence can detect violations related to seat belt use by the driver and passengers in the front seats, as stated in the new traffic law.

Brigadier Al-Subhan further explained that violations are now processed electronically and sent to the violator in real-time through the "Sahel" application, whether the violation is detected directly or indirectly.
