KD 500 fine, jail for leaving kids in cars
New penalties for leaving children unattended in cars

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 3: Brigadier Mohammed Al- Subhan, head of the “’Unified Gulf Traffic Week 2025’ Committee, has clarified that leaving a child under the age of ten alone in a parked vehicle, while the driver steps out for any purpose, constitutes a traffic violation, saying an adult must be present with the child at all times. If the child is harmed as a result, the driver will be held accountable under the Child Protection Law.

The penalty for this violation may include up to six months in prison or a fine of 500 dinars, or both of the two penalties. Brigadier Al-Subhan further stated that children under the age of ten must sit in the back seat and be properly secured. This type of violation is issued directly by law enforcement, rather than through artificial intelligence cameras. He also highlighted that under the new traffic law, modern cameras equipped with artificial intelligence are capable of detecting whether the driver and front-seat passengers are adhering to seat belt regulations. Violations are now processed electronically and are sent immediately to the violator through the “Sahel” application.
