KUWAIT CITY, May 30: The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti woman to life imprisonment for locking her daughter in the bathroom of an apartment in Salmiya area, killing her, and leaving her corpse there for five years.
During the previous court sessions, the judge highlighted three charges leveled against the woman - deliberately refusing to take care of her daughter, detaining her daughter, and violating the sanctity of the dead. The accused denied the charges. She said she saw her daughter on the floor and her face was pale yellow, which was how she knew that her daughter was dead. However, she was afraid to notify anyone.
Meanwhile, one of the sons of the accused had testified that his mother used to tell him that his sister was locked up in a room in the house in order to prevent her from going out. He explained that he had one day threatened his mother that he would live in an apartment alone and take his sister with him. That was when his mother told him that his sister had died and her body was in the house. He immediately informed the police.
According to the case file, a report was submitted by a Kuwaiti citizen in his twenties to the Salmiya Police Station. In the report, he stated that he had a quarrel with his mother because she killed his sister in 2016 and kept her body in the bathroom of their apartment in Salmiya area. Immediately the police went to search the apartment, and found the already decomposed remains of a corpse in the bathroom. They arrested the mother and brother, and summoned the forensic team to collect the remains of the corpse and refer it to the Forensic Medicine Department in order to determine the cause and time of death
