TEHRAN, Nov 1: Iran has designated Britain's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as “terrorist” organizations and its foreign intelligence agency MI6 as a “hostile group,” escalating tensions between Tehran and London amid the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
In a statement carried by state-run IRNA news agency on Sunday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the decision was taken in response to what it described as Britain's “malicious” actions, particularly London's designation of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
The ministry said the move was based on a resolution adopted by Iran's Supreme National Security Council and followed Britain's designation of the IRGC under the State Threats Act 2026 on July 13.
Tehran also accused London of participating in the US-Israeli war against Iran by providing access to military and logistical bases and facilities under British jurisdiction.
The latest move adds another dimension to the deteriorating relations between Iran and Britain, with both sides taking increasingly confrontational positions over military and security matters.
Tensions across the Middle East have remained high since the United States and Israel launched attacks against Iran on February 28, prompting Iranian retaliatory strikes across the region.
Despite subsequent diplomatic efforts and a memorandum signed between Washington and Tehran in June, tensions have persisted, particularly over regional security arrangements and navigation through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian announcement marks a further escalation in the diplomatic confrontation between Tehran and Western government
