WASHINGTON, Dec 3, (Agencies): A Texan hiker who endured an eight-day ordeal in Big Bend National Park is now sharing glimpses of her experience. Christy Perry, 25, took to TikTok, posting a carousel of images from her challenging adventure with the caption, "Swipe to watch me get lost in Big Bend for 8 days." In a more serious tone, she expressed gratitude for being alive and healthy.
The National Park Service reported Perry missing after she rented a car in Midland, Texas, and drove to Big Bend last month. Despite her family reporting her missing, Perry failed to show up for her camping reservation at the Chisos Basin Campground on Nov 9. Her car was discovered at the trailhead of the Lost Mine Trail.
Search efforts unfolded over a week, involving NPS employees, the US Border Patrol, Texas Game Wardens with K-9 teams, and the Los Diablos fire crew. Ultimately, on Nov 17, they located Perry "awake and talking" in the rugged terrain and surrounding canyons and ridges.
Perry's social media posts reflect the range of emotions she experienced during her ordeal, from seemingly happy moments to nightmarish ones. Although she hasn't publicly disclosed how she survived without cell service in the remote area, Perry expressed her thankfulness on Thanksgiving Day in an Instagram post. She acknowledged her gratitude for being alive and well, praising the National Park Service and the rescue team for their efforts. Perry also showed appreciation for the healthcare staff at the Odessa hospital where she received treatment.
Remarkably, Perry seems to maintain a sense of humor about the challenging experience.
