KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: An expatriate has been sent to the Central Prison after being charged with stealing gold and cash worth more than 150,000 dinars over two years from a jewelry company. The Public Prosecution also summoned a young woman, whom the accused had planned to marry after he admitted to giving her a significant portion of the stolen items.
Discovery of Theft
The case came to light when the owner of the jewelry company filed a report at a Capital Governorate police station. According to a security source, the owner revealed that his driver had accidentally spotted a gold piece in the possession of the expatriate, who was attempting to hide it in his clothes. The accused reportedly offered the driver money in exchange for keeping the incident a secret and not informing the owner.
Following this tip-off, an inventory of the store was conducted, uncovering a deficit exceeding 150,000 dinars.
Confession and Arrest
The expatriate was immediately arrested after a case was registered. During questioning, he confessed to systematically stealing gold and cash for more than a year. He revealed that part of the stolen money had been sent to his family, while the rest was spent on his fiancée. He admitted to gifting her gold pieces and funding lavish outings at high-end restaurants and hotels.
Investigation and Fiancée’s Denial
Further investigation revealed that the expatriate had transferred large sums of money to his accounts, amounts far exceeding his modest salary of 400 dinars. When questioned, the young woman denied any knowledge of her fiancé's theft. She claimed he had led her to believe he was a manager at the jewelry company earning over 3,000 dinars a month.
The case is under further investigation, with both suspects now in custody.
