KUWAIT CITY, April 14: The eight-degree drop in temperature on Sunday led to a 2,383-megawatt decrease in power consumption, compared to the highest load recorded by the index last Thursday --12,640 megawatts -- at 40 degrees Celsius. The highest power consumption reached 10,257 megawatts at 32 degrees Celsius on Sunday, so the index to remained in the green zone. Sources disclosed that the drop in temperatures and the lower load index gave the ministry a chance to complete the maintenance of power generation units to operate them in the coming days; hence, avoiding the programmed power cuts in residential, industrial and agricultural areas.
On the same day, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy revealed that the main ‘Salmiya W’ transformer station went out of service resulting in a partial power outage in some areas in Hawally Governorate. Sources said the emergency teams of the ministry worked hard to restore power in less than an hour by operating the station and repairing the causes of the outage, indicating that the electricity grid lost 250 megawatts due to the power outage.
