Major breakthrough with 50% reduction in diabetes medications

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 11: The Dasman Diabetes Institute has reduced diabetes medications for patients by 50 percent through its Diabetes Overcome Program, guided by a specialized medical team, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Acting Director-General Dr. Faisal Al-Rifai highlighted that this achievement reflects the institute’s commitment to scientific research, advanced diabetes care and preventive awareness initiatives.

Dr. Al-Rifai emphasized that the institute’s integrated research approach explores the complex mechanisms of diabetes, using modern data to better understand the chemical, immunological and genetic factors influencing the disease. This year alone, Dasman published 92 studies in peer-reviewed journals, contributing significantly to knowledge on diabetes causes, complications and treatments.

Kuwaiti researchers at the institute have excelled in the field, earning recognition and awards. The institute has also been awarded patents for its pioneering research and is coordinating with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Sabah Al- Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity to further its innovations. Moreover, the institute has received prestigious international accreditations, including the Canadian Accreditation Authority’s diamond level and recognition from the International Diabetes Federation, marking it as one of four reference centers in the Middle East and North Africa 
It is also accredited by the American Heart Association, Royal College of Surgeons in England and American College of Pathology, reinforcing its regional and international reputation.

On the national level, Dasman collaborates with local institutions to strengthen scientific research and enhance expertise in Kuwait. To mark World Diabetes Day on Nov 14, the institute will hold an event at Asima Mall to promote diabetes awareness, conduct medical exams and encourage healthy living practices.
