INDIA, Uttar Pradesh, Nov 27, (Agencies): In a tragic turn of events, a man in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district carried out a horrifying attack, setting his estranged wife on fire, fatally bludgeoning his father-in-law, and ultimately taking his own life with a country-made pistol. According to SP Hamirpur, Diksha Sharma, the couple had been separated, and the wife had been living apart with their three children for nearly two months. The victims were identified as Anusuiya (39), her father Nandlal (60), and her husband, Om Prakash Rajput (42). The eldest daughter, aware of the strained relationship, disclosed that her mother had moved out and filed an FIR on October 8 against Om Prakash for a previous assault in Pathanpura of Rath area.

At the time of the incident, Anusuiya was residing at her father’s under-construction house in Lodhipura of the Muskura police area, sleeping in a separate room with her children. Om Prakash forcibly entered the house, attacking his wife and setting her on fire. Nandlal, attempting to intervene, tragically lost his life when Om Prakash attacked him with a stone. Despite attempting to strangle the two minor children, the daughter managed to save them and promptly contacted the police at 112.

Ratan Lal Varma, a teacher and a friend of Om Prakash, sustained injuries while trying to protect Anusuiya and Nandlal. Varma had been sent by Om Prakash to negotiate a compromise with his wife and had decided to stay overnight after visiting the family. Recounting the horrifying incident, Varma said, “He had gone crazy, and I tried to save Anusuiya but could not. I ran away from the house” and sought medical treatment for burns. Last month, Om Prakash assaulted Anusuiya and the children, leading to the filing of an FIR. The police have sent the bodies for autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation into this tragic incident.
