Two committees formed to determine violations, problems in projects: MPWKUWAIT CITY, Sept 1: Minister of Public Works Hussam Al-Roumi has ordered the formation of two independent committees to determine violations and problems in projects executed by the ministry, reports Al-Jarida daily.This came after the ministry received several complains about some construction and road engineering projects which do not meet the specifications and standards set by the ministry. Sources disclosed the first committee, headed by Dr Muhammad Al-Yaqout from the College of Engineering and Petroleum in Kuwait University, will submit reports on highway and bridge projects to the minister.Members of the committee include Dr Sharaf Al-Khodhr from the College of Engineering and Petroleum in Kuwait University, Dr Salah Zourab from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), and Eng Fawziya Jaddi, Eng Nayef Al-Othman and Eng Ilham Al-Hassawi from the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART).Sources said the committee’s report touches on the assessment of the upper surface of expressways and roads renovated or maintained recently to ensure they meet the specifications and standards set by the ministry, in addition to identifying errors in various bridge projects implemented by PART.Sources added the report covers all roads including those constructed recently and those that have been under maintenance since several years ago, indicating the minister gave the committee absolute power to conduct tests. According to sources, the second committee is in charge of examining and probing construction projects and identifying violations therein under the leadership of Justice Minister Advisor Nawaf Al-Muhmil with Hussam Behbani as Deputy Chairperson and Judge Abdulaziz Al-Juweisri from the Technical Bureau at the Justice Ministry, Eng Muhammad Al-Adwani from the Legal Experts Department and Nayef Al-Mutairi from the Legal Department at Kuwait Municipality as members. The projects subjected to scrutiny of the committee are as follows: bachelors residential area in Shadadiya, Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization Center, Experts Building in Reggae, supermarket in Garnata, Criminal Investigation General Department Building, Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital (second phase), Arabization Center For Medical Science (ACMLS) and the Ministry of Education’s headquarters in South Surra.
