KUWAIT CITY, July 24: In 2023, official figures revealed that approximately 538 Kuwaitis married a second wife, 51 Kuwaitis married a third wife, and 3 Kuwaitis married a fourth wife. This data highlights the various marital practices within the country.

According to statistics from the Central Statistical Administration, the overall marriage rate in Kuwait for 2023 was the lowest in the past five years, at 21.4%. A total of 11,166 marriages were recorded, with 9,280 (83.1%) being between Kuwaiti men and women. Marriages between Kuwaiti men and non-Kuwaiti women accounted for 1,365 cases (12.2%), while marriages of Kuwaiti women to non-Kuwaitis reached 521 cases (4.7%). Divorce cases also saw a notable increase, with approximately 5,932 divorces reported throughout the year.

May was the peak month, recording around 629 divorce cases. Educational background appeared to influence divorce rates, with those holding university degrees being more likely to divorce compared to other educational levels. Specifically, about 4,239 divorces involved Kuwaiti couples with university degrees.
