KUWAIT CITY, July 15: Despite the intensive efforts of security services to combat crime and maintain societal stability, the Public Prosecution has raised concerns over the increasing number of registered criminal cases. Recent statistics obtained by Al-Seyassah reveal that 1,067 new criminal cases were registered in May, with 522 referred to the Criminal Court, 414 closed, and the remainder still under consideration.
According to the report, the total number of cases received during May reached 3,483. Among these, commercial misdemeanors accounted for the largest percentage at 34.3%, while juvenile misdemeanors were the least common at 1.7%. Specifically, 522 cases were referred to the Criminal Court, 414 were closed, and the remaining cases are pending.

For felony cases, banking crimes were the most prevalent, making up 31.3% of the total, while kidnapping, arrest, and detention cases were the least common at 2.4%.
The statistics indicate a 9.8% increase in the number of cases received this May compared to the same period last year. The most significant rise was seen in commercial misdemeanor cases, which surged by 132.1%. Information technology-related cases and felony cases also saw increases of 12.6% and 11.7%, respectively. Conversely, juvenile misdemeanor cases saw a sharp decline of 71.6%, followed by drug trafficking and abuse cases decreasing by 40.1%, environmental misdemeanors by 37.8%, and check misdemeanor cases by 22.4%.
The Public Prosecution's statistics highlight the dynamic nature of criminal activity and the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public safety. The increase in commercial misdemeanors and information technology crimes points to evolving trends in criminal behavior, necessitating adaptive strategies by the security services to address these issues effectively.
