KUWAIT CITY, Oct 5: A government report revealed that the Ministry of Finance estimated KD734 million in revenues in the budget of the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Renewable Energy for fiscal 2024/2025 -- an increase of KD15 million compared to the last fiscal year’s KD719 million. It disclosed that the estimated amount of electricity revenues is KD488 million; including some items, most notably the sale of electricity at KD450 million, electricity connection fees at KD35 million, and KD2.400 million in electricity revenues and other materials. The report indicated that among the total estimated amount for electricity; water revenues amounted to KD255 million, including several items -- KD250 million for fresh water, KD2.500 million for groundwater, KD510,000 for treated water revenues, and KD2 million for water connection costs.

Meanwhile, sources explained that the revenues collected by the ministry constitute a large percentage of the volume of non-oil revenues collected by 34 ministries and government agencies. Sources said the ministry’s revenues were the largest at the level of ministries in the past fiscal year, with a revenue rate of 33.4 percent of the total non-oil revenues, which are related to the item of goods and services revenues and other revenues. They said the Ministry of Electricity alone collected KD483.608 million.

Sources attributed the high collection rates in the previous fiscal year to the electronic services that the ministry provides, which exceeded 45 services, including electronic payment services, electricity delivery, and other services that generate revenues for the ministry; as well as the electronic link with the Ministry of Interior regarding the payment of expatriates’ debts related to electricity and water consumption.
