KUWAIT CITY, Dec 15: In a new move to implement the decision to recover rented government housing (popular houses) in Al-Sulaibiya and Tayma, the Ministry of Interior has started evacuating some homes in these areas following the expiration of the deadline previously given to tenants.
Informed sources revealed that committees from the Ministries of Interior, Defense, and State for Housing Affairs are currently reviewing the housing conditions of the tenants. Specific deadlines have been set for those whose service in the Ministries of Interior and Defense has ended to vacate their homes.
Last September, the Ministry of Interior issued a statement explaining that the decision to recover a number of public houses was based on the terms and conditions of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare and the relevant laws. These laws stipulate that the lease contract must be terminated and the rented house recovered in three cases: when the Kuwaiti beneficiary receives housing assistance from the state, when the non-Kuwaiti beneficiary’s military service ends, or when the reasons for which the housing right was granted no longer exist.
The Ministry also noted that inspection and follow-up teams have found cases where beneficiaries subleased their homes, converted them into bachelor housing, or remained abroad for extended periods. Additionally, some Kuwaiti beneficiaries who had already received housing care from the state were found to be in violation of the terms.
It is important to note that the Ministries of Defense and Interior take humanitarian cases into consideration when providing housing care for their members whose service has ended due to death or injury during military operations.
