Ministry of Public Works To Address Sand Issue With New Plan
Kuwait's Ministry of Public Works launches plan to combat sand encroachment on highways.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2: The Ministry of Public Works has initiated a plan to address the recurring issue of sand accumulation in certain areas, aiming to prevent sand encroachment on highways, protect the environment, and promote sustainable development. However, experts in traffic safety and environmental conservation stress the urgent need for a comprehensive and long-term solution to this problem.

According to sources, those concerned with road safety have urged the ministry to establish a committee dedicated to investigating the causes of the increasing sand quantities. The committee would study the issue thoroughly to develop permanent solutions, as the problem worsens each year despite the temporary measures currently in place.

The sources explained that the proposed committee, which will be formed following discussions between the Ministry of Public Works and relevant stakeholders, will be tasked with finding a lasting solution to the sand issue.

In the meantime, the sources suggested that there are immediate actions that could be taken before implementing permanent solutions. These include removing the existing concrete barriers on some roads and installing side barriers to prevent sand from covering large areas.

The sources also emphasized that environmental authorities will play a crucial role in developing final solutions. This will involve creating an environmental engineering plan with comprehensive environmental considerations tailored to Kuwait's desert landscape. The plan will focus on preventing sediment accumulation, improving traffic and environmental safety, and reducing accidents.
