KUWAIT CITY, May 15: Abdulaziz Sari, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs, has reiterated the ministry's unwavering commitment to empowering Kuwaiti women across all sectors. Speaking at a panel discussion titled "Distinguished Kuwaiti Women" to commemorate Women’s Day, organized by the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in collaboration with the Lawyers’ Association, Sari highlighted the significant strides made by women in leadership roles within the ministry and its affiliated agencies.
Sari proudly announced the presence of three women leaders and approximately 30 directors and supervisors, collectively constituting nearly 50 percent of all leadership and supervisory positions. He emphasized Kuwait's historic commitment to women's development, acknowledging their pivotal role in the nation's progress.
"Kuwait has demonstrated its pioneering role in various fields throughout its history, overcoming challenges and achieving remarkable successes, positioning itself at the forefront regionally and internationally," stated Sari. He emphasized Kuwait's dedication to women's rights, extending beyond political empowerment to economic, cultural, and social spheres.
Highlighting the significant milestones in Kuwaiti women's journey, Sari commemorated May 16, 2005, as Kuwaiti Women’s Day, marking the historic moment women gained political rights by running for and being elected to the National Assembly. He underscored the subsequent electoral victories and the increasing representation of women in leadership roles, with the percentage of women leaders reaching 21 percent.
Sari attributed Kuwaiti women's achievements to constitutional guarantees of equality and Kuwait's commitment to international conventions, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. He emphasized the role of legislation and patriotism in safeguarding and promoting women's rights.
Dr. Maryam Al-Azmi, Acting Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, praised Kuwaiti women's contributions across various fields, citing their cultural understanding and patriotic fervor. Al-Azmi highlighted Kuwait's early ratification of international conventions aimed at eliminating discrimination against women and affirmed Kuwait's commitment to remaining a cultural and intellectual hub.
She emphasized the active participation of Kuwaiti women in volunteer work, judiciary, diplomacy, military, and economic sectors, underscoring their indispensable role in national development. Al-Azmi concluded by reaffirming Kuwait's status as a global leader in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.
