Funds allocated for solar panel production workshop in Kuwait's 2024/2025 budget.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: Informed sources within the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy have disclosed that the ministry has allocated funds for a project to establish a solar panel production workshop in its 2024/2025 fiscal year budget. The Central Agency for Public Tenders has granted financial approval for the project, allowing specialized companies to submit their bids. The bids will be opened and studied, and the contract will be awarded to the company offering the best financial and technical proposal.

The establishment of this workshop marks a significant step towards integrating renewable energy into Kuwait’s electricity production. The project aligns with the goal of generating 15 percent of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2035. The workshop will focus on producing solar panels, identified as the most suitable technology for Kuwait due to their cost-effectiveness and efficiency. The energy generated from these panels will be seamlessly integrated into the ministry’s network, offering a more fluid supply compared to other renewable energy technologies, such as thermal panels.

The sources highlighted the success of the Shaqaya station experiment, a pilot project by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, which produced 70 megawatts using three different types of renewable energy technology. The experiment confirmed that solar panel technology outperformed other types, further supporting the ministry's decision to focus on solar panels in their renewable energy initiatives.
