Minnie Driver

LONDON, July 7: British actress Minnie Driver has expressed candid views about her future in the United States should former President Donald Trump win reelection in November. In an interview with The Times of London, Driver, who recently relocated to the U.K. after 27 years in Los Angeles, discussed her apprehensions about living in Republican-led states.

"If I lived in a red [Republican] state, no, I couldn’t," Driver stated when asked if she would consider returning to the US under a Trump presidency. "But living in California, you are somewhat insulated. But do you want to go and live in a bubble? Do you run away from the fire or do you go back and help?"

The Good Will Hunting star didn't shy away from her opinions on Trump, particularly following his conviction in the New York hush money trial in May. "Of course, he deserves to be in prison — of course he does," Driver asserted. She also critiqued the broader political climate, noting concerns about voter decisions and the constitutional implications.

Driver reflected on Trump's impact beyond his presidency, remarking on the broader political landscape and societal attitudes. "He’s just a symptom, and now they’ve got a mascot," she commented, addressing deeper political divides exacerbated during Trump's tenure.

Comparing the U.K. political scene to the U.S., Driver expressed cautious optimism. "At least the memes are funnier," she quipped, highlighting a perceived difference in political discourse and social cohesion.

Her remarks come amid recent political shifts, including the Labour Party’s historic victory in the 2024 U.K. general election, which saw them defeat the ruling Conservative Party. As Driver navigates her views on politics and society, her commentary underscores ongoing debates about political polarization and societal values on both sides of the Atlantic.
