'Miracle' baby delivered from deceased mother after Gaza airstrike.

GAZA, July 25: In a tragic incident in Gaza, Ola Al-Kurd, who was nine months pregnant, was killed when an Israeli airstrike hit her family home in Al-Nuseirat on July 19. According to her father, Adnan Al-Kurd, the explosion caused Ola to fall several floors to her death, but her baby boy, Malek Yassin, survived. Ola’s husband was also injured in the attack.

Despite the devastating loss, surgeons performed an emergency delivery, extracting baby Malek from his deceased mother. Adnan Al-Kurd described the birth as a "miracle," highlighting Ola’s hope to hold her child and bring some solace to her family despite the ongoing conflict.

The airstrike is part of a broader offensive launched by Israel in response to an attack by Hamas militants on October 7, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and over 250 hostages, according to Israeli sources. The conflict has led to widespread destruction and loss of life in Gaza, with health officials reporting over 39,000 Palestinian casualties.

Dr. Khalil al-Dakran from a Gaza hospital described the dire conditions in the medical sector, citing severe shortages of medication and medical supplies, as well as fears that the hospital’s main generator could fail.

As the conflict continues, Gaza’s hospitals, already struggling, have faced additional damage. Baby Malek, now in an incubator at a different hospital, begins his life without his mother and is deprived of basic necessities and maternal care.

Dr. al-Dakran lamented the difficult circumstances surrounding Malek's birth, questioning what the newborn did to deserve such hardship and emphasizing the profound impact of the conflict on the lives of Gaza’s children.
