KUWAIT CITY, Jan 2: The Criminal Court has sentenced a Ministry of Interior officer to 14 years in prison on charges of trafficking in psychotropic substances. Simultaneously, he was acquitted of allegations related to the smuggling of hashish by sea. Two Kuwaiti nationals received sentences of 15 and 4 years, respectively, while an Iranian national received a life sentence. The Ministry of Interior officers successfully apprehended a lieutenant colonel who misused his rank and official position to facilitate the smuggling of substantial quantities of narcotics into the country.
In the arrest operation, coordinated efforts between the General Department of Narcotics Control and the Coast Guard led to the apprehension of the officer, stationed at the Shuwaikh port office. The officer was intercepted while attempting to smuggle approximately 800 kilograms of hashish into the country. The joint task force acted on intelligence regarding the smuggling attempt, promptly arresting the individual and referring the case to the appropriate legal authorities for further action.
