KUWAIT CITY, March 23: The Mubarak Al-Kabeer Seaport project is a pivotal initiative that aims to position Kuwait as a key hub for cargo and commercial enterprises, said Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan on Sunday.
Speaking during a visit to the project site on Boubyan Island, Dr. Al-Mashaan, who also serves as Acting Minister of Water, Electricity, and Renewable Energy, emphasized that the Mubarak Al-Kabeer project plays a crucial role in Kuwait's Vision 2035, which seeks to transform the country into a regional commercial and economic center.
The minister noted that her site visit was in line with the leadership's directive to accelerate the construction process. She also highlighted that the visit was intended to review the latest developments since the signing of the contract and the commencement of work on March 16.
The Mubarak Al-Kabeer port project is a key component of Kuwait's broader development vision to become both a regional and international hub for commerce. It is a testament to the growing cooperation between Kuwait and China, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries last September. The MoU includes the Mubarak Al-Kabeer port project, marking the beginning of a series of collaborative agreements between the two nations.
The current contract for the port focuses on finalizing the design, as well as providing a comprehensive vision for the execution and operation of the project.
Dr. Al-Mashaan further reaffirmed that the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port development is receiving significant attention from the leadership. The project aims to enhance Kuwait's status as a major commercial port and transportation hub in the region, in line with the strategic objectives of New Kuwait 2035.
During her visit, she reiterated that the field inspection of the project was aimed at ensuring the timely and safe development of a regional economic corridor and commercial center. She also noted the importance of the project in fostering economic growth and increasing Kuwait’s role in regional trade and finance.
The Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project is expected to boost Kuwait's economic and commercial activities, particularly in the export and import sectors. The current contract is one of the first fruits of the MoU signed with China in September 2023, with more contracts anticipated as part of the ongoing cooperation between the two countries.
Dr. Al-Mashaan concluded by emphasizing the project's role in realizing Kuwait’s vision of economic diversification, expanding its GDP, and reclaiming its position as a leading commercial and financial hub in the region.
