Multiple US aircraft damaged in Iranian strike on Jordan air base: CBS

WASHINGTON, Sept 10: Multiple U.S. military aircraft were damaged during an Iranian missile strike on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, with one A-10 Thunderbolt reportedly losing a wing and about eight F-15 fighter jets sustaining minor damage, according to CBS News.

CBS reporter Jennifer Jacobs, citing sources familiar with the situation, reported that the A-10, commonly known as the “Warthog,” was struck during the overnight attack and suffered major damage, including the loss of a wing. About eight F-15s also sustained minor damage but were subsequently returned to service. Reuters independently reported the CBS account.

The Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, near Al-Azraq in Jordan, hosts U.S. military assets and has been repeatedly targeted during the escalating conflict between Iran and the United States.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed its missiles targeted U.S. military positions at the base, including areas associated with fighter aircraft. However, the extent of the damage reported by CBS has not been publicly confirmed by the U.S. military.

Jordanian authorities said their air defenses engaged 20 ballistic missiles launched from Iran, intercepting and destroying 18, while two fell in unpopulated areas. No casualties were reported in the Jordanian military's account of the attack.

The reported aircraft damage comes amid a sharp escalation in the U.S.-Iran conflict. The United States had earlier announced the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers following Iranian missile attacks on a U.S. Navy warship. Iran subsequently launched missile attacks toward U.S. positions in Jordan and claimed attacks on vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
