KUWAIT CITY, May 16: In response to mounting public concerns, the municipality is contemplating a delay in its decision to dismantle temporary wedding tents until after the summer break, sources revealed to Al-Jarida.
The move comes as the municipality grapples with a wave of objections voiced over the past two days, expressing dismay over the potential impact of the removal on citizens and their social gatherings. Particularly emphasized is the perceived unpreparedness of most wedding halls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Affairs.
Sources affirmed that, at present, the removal initiative may only encompass certain halls situated on land owned by investors in the South Sabahiya area. However, further removals are likely for those halls whose licenses have lapsed and renewal fees have not been settled since the implementation of new regulations governing temporary event tents.
Notably, temporary halls in the Jahra Governorate are exempt from immediate demolition, though some are required to finalize their licensing procedures. In Al-Ardiyah Al-Harfiyya, numerous hall owners have yet to renew their licenses, with an extension until the summer's end provided for compliance.
The municipality's reconsideration reflects a balancing act between regulatory enforcement and accommodating citizens' social needs. As discussions continue, the fate of these temporary structures remains uncertain, with stakeholders eagerly awaiting a final decision from the authorities.
