Municipality Takes Action Against British, American, and English Schools in Salwa

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: Director of the Legal Department at Kuwait Municipality Hussein Al-Ajmi submitted a detailed statement to the Municipal Council as part of the executive body’s response to a question raised by the Municipal Council member Nasser Al-Jadaan regarding private schools in Salwa. The statement outlined the legal procedures taken regarding the violations of private schools in Salwa.

It explained that three violation reports received by the Legal Department were referred to the Engineering Audit and Follow-up Department at Hawally Municipality. These reports were reviewed by the Legal Department and are now in preparation for further action to address the identified issues. In response to the member’s question, the municipality clarified that the building violations identified in the reports varied.

They included unauthorized building extensions, construction without adhering to setback requirements, misuse of property for purposes other than those for which it was licensed, and the cancellation of designated parking spaces. It provided a list of the private schools in Salwa that were inspected, which included a total of nine schools. Violations were recorded at three of them:

1. The British School: Violations included unlicensed annexes on the ground floor, the cancellation of parking spaces, and the construction of a building within the parking lot, all of which were found to violate building regulations.
2. The English Early Education Group: This school was found to have expanded its building without a license, with an unauthorized addition of 800 square meters on the ground floor. The property was also being used for purposes other than its licensed function.
3. The American Academy for Girls: Upon inspection, it was discovered that the school had made an unlicensed extension of 100 square meters on the first floor, leading to a violation of building regulations. The municipality is currently taking the necessary steps to address these violations by the relevant laws and regulations.
