Murder, assault cast dark shadow over Kuwait’s Eid

KUWAIT CITY, April 1: Kuwait witnessed two horrific crimes during the Eid holidays. The first incident involved a Kuwaiti citizen running over his wife with his vehicle, resulting in her death in the Abdali desert, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The second incident involved a Kuwaiti citizen kidnapping a child, sexually assaulting him, and abandoning him on a street in Capital Governorate. Both criminals have been arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution. In the first case, a Kuwaiti citizen in his thirties ran over his wife, who was in her twenties, with his vehicle in a desert area on Abdali Road.

Security personnel were quick in arresting him, and referred him to the Public Prosecution. The Public Prosecution issued a statement announcing the detention of the accused citizen, who is charged with luring his wife to the desert area and running her over with his vehicle. The Public Prosecution stated that it had begun inspecting the scene of the incident, interrogating the suspect, and questioning the witnesses. It also ordered the involvement of criminal evidence and forensic medicine teams. Investigations are ongoing to complete the remaining procedures. In the second case, a Kuwaiti citizen abducted a nine-year-old Arab child from Maidan Hawally, sexually assaulted him in an apartment, and then abandoned him on a street in Hawally Governorate. Detectives were able to arrest the suspect in record time and found that he had a criminal record involving similar offenses. Yesterday, the Public Prosecution ordered the detention of the citizen on charges of kidnapping the child, sexually assaulting him, and subjecting him to both psychological and physical abuse. The accused underwent questioning regarding the charges, and the victim was referred to the General Department of Criminal Evidence, Forensic Medicine, and the Child Protection Center for examination and assessment.

The Public Prosecution confirmed that investigations are ongoing to complete the necessary legal procedures. This case brings to mind the notorious “Hawally Monster” case, where the accused, who had sexually assaulted several children, was arrested. A death sentence was issued against him for his crimes, and the sentence was carried out in 2013. In a press release, the Ministry of Interior stated, “In a security achievement that highlights the readiness and efficiency of the Ministry of Interior’s agencies in combating crime and protecting society, the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Department of Criminal Investigations’ Capital Investigations Department, was able to uncover the details of a child kidnapping and assault case within a record time of less than 24 hours. The crime occurred in Maidan Hawally on the morning of Eid Al-Fitr.

The details of the case trace back to a report received by the security authorities regarding a child found on one of the roads in the Capital Governorate and suffering from physical injuries due to sexual assault. Immediately, the Capital Investigations Department launched intensive investigations and, in record time, identified and arrested the perpetrator. The child’s condition is stable, and he has been referred to the Forensic Medicine Department. During the investigation, the accused fully confessed to committing the crime. It was also revealed that he has a history of similar offenses and a criminal record for drug-related crimes.” The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the concerned authorities are continuing to take the necessary legal actions against the accused. It affirmed its full commitment to protecting members of society and firmly confronting any crimes that threaten the security and safety of both citizens and residents. In addition, the Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior adopted full transparency in terms of presenting details about the heinous crime committed by the individual. It released a video showing the suspect brutally and savagely kidnapping the child into his vehicle. Detectives were able to apprehend him in a very short time. The ministry had also shared a photograph of the criminal on its social media platforms.
