Coachella Festival gets a gentle tremor from 3.8 magnitude quake.

SAN DIEGO, April 14: Music enthusiasts attending the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival were surprised by a gentle magnitude-3.8 earthquake that struck the area on Saturday morning. The quake occurred at 9:08 a.m. just north of Borrego Springs, a desert town in San Diego County located approximately 60 miles south of the Empire Polo Club in Indio, where the festival is held. According to information from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was minor but was felt across a large portion of Southern California, a region inhabited by over 20 million people. Reports of weak shaking were received from areas spanning from the US-Mexico border to the southern Orange County coast and into the desert.

The earthquake, which occurred about 7 miles beneath the surface, did not cause any significant damage, as confirmed by Chuck Westerheide, spokesperson for San Diego County's emergency and public safety services. While it wasn’t immediately clear if the quake was associated with a specific fault, it was near the San Andreas Fault, one of the most feared faults in the Western United States, which passes through the Coachella Valley.

Despite the seismic activity, there appeared to be minimal concern among festival-goers at Coachella, where the band No Doubt was reuniting for a highly anticipated performance later that night. Some attendees took to social media to humorously attribute the earthquake to the power of their favorite Saturday-night headliners, including Tyler, the Creator. The official Coachella social media account did not mention the earthquake, instead focusing on building excitement for the second day of the festival's first-weekend lineup.
