KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: Dr. Noura Al-Jari, Executive Director of the National Robotics Championship, emphasized the significance of events that promote girls' and youth participation in technology as a means to develop promising talents and skills. This statement was made by Al-Jari on Monday after the conclusion of the first-of-its-kind workshop, "Girls' Empowerment," held at the College of Science at Kuwait University, which targeted girls aged 8 to 14 and saw participation from around 90 girls.
Al-Jari noted that the workshop is part of the Computer Science Department's initiatives aimed at empowering the next generation in Kuwait, enhancing girls' involvement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and encouraging innovation and creativity in robotics. She added that this workshop aligns with the International Day of the Girl Child, recognized by the United Nations and observed on October 11 each year.
She further explained that this workshop is part of a series of activities related to the National Robotics Championship (KNRC), in which the Computer Science Department at the College of Science at Kuwait University collaborates with the Public Authority for Youth and the Ministry of Education, in partnership with Zain, Al-Sayer, Kuwait Technical College, and Warba Bank.
The event aims to develop girls' technology and robotics skills while providing a supportive environment for creativity. Participants learned to use advanced tools and techniques through interactive and applied methods, alongside practical activities that foster cooperation and teamwork to boost self-confidence and problem-solving abilities.
Al-Jari highlighted that the one-day workshop was led by specialized members of the academic staff from the Computer Science Department. This initiative is part of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship 2024/2025 held in Sabah Al-Salem University City and aligns with Kuwait University’s strategic plan to implement the National Development Plan 2035 and enhance the capabilities of citizens and institutions.
