Nationality file under review as new authority takes shape
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef during a television interview.

KUWAIT CITY, March 3: While the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef revealed serious steps to establish an independent nationality affairs authority, informed sources revealed that the Fatwa and Legislation Department is working on preparing the comprehensive vision for the proposed Nationality Affairs Public Authority, reports Al- Seyassah daily. They explained that the goal of establishing this public authority is to deal with the gaps revealed during the review of the nationality file, which led to the unlawful granting of Kuwaiti citizenship to many individuals, as well as instances of forgery through various methods.

The file remains open and will not be closed until Kuwaiti nationality is fully purified from all impurities that have attached to it. Earlier in a television interview, Minister Sheikh Fahad explained that the authority is in the process of being established and will have its independent entity. The formation of the Nationality Affairs Public Authority and the establishment of its mechanisms will be carried out through the Fatwa and Legislation Department, which will determine its powers and the role it will play. The authority will be tasked with reviewing nationality laws and making the necessary amendments in the next phase to preserve national identity and prevent forgers. In response to a question about the formation and structure of the authority, the sources said the matter is still under study and research. They indicated that once the task is completed by the Fatwa and Legislation Department, the draft will be referred to the Council of Ministers for approval, per the appropriate procedures.
