KUWAIT CITY, March 31: The Court of Cassation overturned the ruling of a lower court that acquitted a Saudi national of forging Kuwaiti citizenship by adding his name to a Kuwaiti’s file. The higher court sentenced the Saudi to three years in prison with hard labor. It has been reported that the Saudi got jobs in various ministries by virtue of his forged Kuwaiti citizenship. Meanwhile , the Court of Appeals upheld the verdict of the First Instance Court, which acquitted MP Salman Al-Hulaila of participating in the Awazem Tribe by-election in the Second Constituency.

The Public Prosecution had earlier released five members of the tribe, who contested the by-election, on bail of KD1,000 each. In an unrelated development , the Director of Funerals Department in Kuwait Municipality Dr. Faisal Al-Awadi issued an internal circular to organize work in cemeteries during the holy month of Ramadan, reports Al-Rai daily. Al-Awadi said the funerals will happen at 10 am, after the afternoon prayer, and after Tarawih prayers. He explained this has been done to facilitate services and for the benefit the mourners.
