KUWAIT CITY, Feb 24: In line with its ongoing commitment to promoting banking culture and enhancing financial awareness across all segments of society, National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) held a fraud awareness and prevention session at Dasman Bilingual School. The initiative aligns with NBK’s support for the “Let’s Be Aware” banking awareness campaign, launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) in collaboration with Kuwait Banking Association (KBA).

The session, attended by over 100 middle school students, shed light on the latest prevalent fraud tactics, how they are executed, and the deceptive methods employed by fraudsters. It also provided essential tips and guidance on safeguarding against such schemes and ensuring online security.

The session saw remarkable engagement, with students actively interacting through the real-life examples and cases presented by the NBK team. The discussion was further enriched by numerous student inquiries, to which the team provided insightful responses. Beyond raising awareness, the session aimed to equip students with the knowledge and vigilance needed to proactively safeguard their personal data while using social media.

The NBK team shared several key fraud prevention tips, emphasizing the importance of using strong and secure passwords with a minimum of eight characters, incorporating letters, numbers, and symbols. They highlighted that the longer the password, the harder it is to crack, while also advising against using personal information or reusing the same password across multiple accounts. This precaution is crucial, as a security breach on one device could compromise all linked online accounts if the same password is used.

The team also cautioned against clicking on suspicious links, whether received through social media or emails from fraudulent sources that impersonate reputable institutions such as banks, telecommunications providers, or major corporations. These deceptive tactics are designed to steal banking or personal information, making vigilance and verification essential to safeguarding one's data.

The team also emphasized the importance of never responding to messages or phone calls claiming to be from the bank and requesting personal or banking information. Fraudsters increasingly use artificial intelligence tools to manipulate communications, making phone numbers appear local within Kuwait to deceive victims. To ensure security, no banking details should ever be shared with any individual or entity.

Furthermore, the NBK team reaffirmed that the bank will never request personal information via email, text messages, or phone calls. They cautioned against responding to such messages, as they are fraudulent attempts designed to steal banking information, sensitive data, or funds.

Commenting on the event, Farah Bastaki, Manager, Digital Communications at National Bank of Kuwait stated: “Awareness serves as the first and most effective line of defense against fraud. That is why we remain committed to expanding the awareness content shared across our social media platforms to educate the public, strengthen their confidence in the banking sector, and ensure a secure banking environment. This commitment is particularly crucial amid rapid technological advancements and the increasing sophistication of financial fraud driven by artificial intelligence.”

“We are continuously striving to enhance financial awareness and promote banking culture across all segments of society, including school and university students as well as our senior community members. Our commitment extends to innovating new approaches that enrich the content of the 'Let’s Be Aware' campaign, empowering the public with the knowledge needed to safeguard their data and bank accounts,” she added.

Bastaki emphasized that NBK leverages its extensive capabilities in customer communication, utilizing its wide-reaching digital channels—the most followed among Kuwaiti banks—to ensure that the objectives of the "Let’s Be Aware" campaign reach the broadest possible audience.

NBK remains dedicated to championing strategic campaigns that drive meaningful impact on the national economy and society. Its steadfast commitment to fraud prevention and raising customer awareness serves as a cornerstone of its broader strategy, reinforcing trust and financial security.

The campaign, launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) in collaboration with Kuwait Banks Association (KBA), is the largest of its kind in the region. It aims to enhance banking and financial awareness among customers by covering key topics such as fraud prevention measures, best practices for utilizing banking services, and fostering a culture of savings and investment, along with other relevant financial issues.

NBK is a key supporter and strategic partner of all CBK campaigns and initiatives aimed at enhancing financial literacy and promoting banking awareness across all segments of society. As a leading financial institution, NBK consistently organizes various initiatives and events that raise awareness about critical banking sector issues.
