Ministry of Health and Education to launch anti-obesity campaign for school students
KUWAIT CITY, July 18: The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is set to launch an awareness campaign against obesity targeting school students for the 2024/2025 academic year. Organized by the School Health Department, the campaign will commence in August 2024 and conclude in March 2025, with the closing ceremony scheduled for World Obesity Day on March 4, 2025.
In a letter addressed to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health stated: "The Ministry of Health, represented by the School Health Department, is about to launch an awareness campaign against obesity among school students for the year 2024/2025, in order to spread awareness about the dangers of obesity and how to prevent it."
The campaign aims to increase health awareness about the dangers of obesity, promote prevention and treatment methods, and reduce the weight of the target group by 10%. The focus will be on male and female students in the intermediate stage across 12 government schools.
Key participants in the campaign include:
- School Health Department: School Awareness Program and Nutrition Program
- Ministry of Education: School Activities Department, General Technical Guidance for Physical Education for Boys and Girls, and School Administration
- Nutrition and Feeding Department: Awareness Section and Therapeutic Nutrition Section
This collaborative effort aims to foster healthier lifestyles among school students and reduce obesity rates in the targeted demographic.
