New courses, degrees added to meet demand of labor market

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 22: The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Nader Al-Jalal has issued a decision to add a group of new academic programs and degrees to the list of higher education institutions recommended by the National Authority for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance in the United States of America. This decision was issued in response to the demands of both local and global labor markets and for supporting modern specializations that align with scientific and technological advancements.

The newly added specializations and programs include:

1. Urban Planning at Tufts University, which cover a range of specializations such as:

Environmental Policy and Planning

Environmental Economics and Urban Planning

Environmental Engineering and Environmental Policy

Transportation Planning

Water Management

2. Artificial Intelligence at Oregon State University

3. PhD and Master’s programs in Education and Music, including:

Decision Sciences at Indiana University - Bloomington

Educational Leadership and Education Policy & Leadership at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

Statistics, Measurements & Evaluation in Education at the University of Missouri - Columbia

Data Science at Columbia University - New York

Music at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

Educational Leadership & Administration at the University of St. Thomas - Minnesota

This decision is part of an ongoing effort to enhance higher education outcomes in Kuwait, ensure the quality of education and provide students with greater opportunities for academic excellence and meaningful contributions to the country’s development.

Meanwhile, the Kuwait University Council, during its meeting chaired by the Acting Director of the university Dr. Osama Al-Saeed, approved a proposal submitted by several colleges regarding the renewal of the full secondment of a number of academic staff members to the Ministry of Higher Education and other official bodies for a period of one year. The acting Secretary-General and the official spokesperson of Kuwait University Dr. Mishari Al-Aifan revealed that the council has approved the following secondments, effective from February 1, 2025, unless stated otherwise:

Dr. Mishari Obaid Al-Hajri as Head of the Cultural Office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dr. Nayef Nazal Al-Shammari as Cultural Attaché in Washington, United States

Dr. Hessa Hamad Al-Ajyan as Cultural Attaché in London, United Kingdom

Dr. Abeer Abdulkareem Sharhan as Cultural Attaché in Canberra, Australia

Dr. Fawaz Ali Abdulmalik as Head of the Cultural Office in Los Angeles, USA

Dr. Fahima Abdul Hamid Al-Awadhi as Head of the Cultural Office in Dublin, Ireland

Dr. Bandar Majed Al-Mutairi as Cultural Attaché in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, starting from March 1, 2025.
