KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: A set of procedures must be implemented to prevent the misuse of vacations and to set a balance between employee rights and work needs. They stressed the importance of building a strong link between the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the Ministry of Health, and other government agencies to ensure the validity of the documents submitted for various types of leave, including sick and emergency leave.

The sources appreciated the completion of a special vacation list, which details all types of leave including annual, sick, study, emergency, and maternity, along with their conditions, required documents, duration, and possibilities for extension. Affirming the need to obtain approval before taking any vacation, the sources said the special vacation list prevents any disruption to the work continuity by specifying an advance notice period required for vacation requests, excluding sick, emergency, and maternity leave.

The sources said, that to prevent the misuse of leave, particularly sick leave, it is crucial to raise awareness about the penalties for such misuse, starting with a warning and escalating if necessary. At the same time, it is also important to maintain flexibility with employees. They concluded by stating the need to regularly review and ensure that all controls and procedures are applied fairly and transparently to avoid discrimination. Any failure to do so could result in negative consequences for employees.
