KUWAIT CITY, Sept 5: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has introduced a new regulation for school cafeterias aimed at promoting healthier eating habits and reducing obesity among students, reports Al-Seyassah daily. This initiative, covered by Ministerial Resolution No 5 of 2021, underscores the Authority’s commitment to ensuring a safe and nutritious food environment in Kuwaiti schools, both public and private. Dr. Shaima Al-Asfour, Deputy Director General of the Community Nutrition Affairs Sector, explained that the new regulation targets specific food groups to align with the healthy nutrition requirements for children and adolescents. The new guidelines outline which foods are permitted and which are banned to foster better health outcomes. The regulation permits foods that adhere to healthy school nutrition standards. These include options that are fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, and low in sugar and salt.
