New traffic era starts with amnesty

KUWAIT CITY, April 14: Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan says the department’s awareness exhibition at Grand Avenues will include the unblocking of traffic violations. Violators can have their impounded vehicles immediately released upon payment of the required fines and fees. He described this initiative as a new chapter for violators ahead of the implementation of the new traffic law amendments on April 22, 2025. In a press statement to the daily, Lieutenant Colonel Bu Hassan said the recent awareness exhibition at Al-Khiran Mall witnessed the clearing of around 5,700 violations and the immediate release of around 75 vehicles.

Regarding the new surveillance cameras, he explained that they are strategically installed on highways where speeding and traffic accidents are more frequent. The cameras are battery-powered, thus eliminating the need for an external power source, and can function on remote, unlit roads. They are also portable and can be relocated quickly as needed. Meanwhile, in line with the instructions and directives of the Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, and as part of ongoing security efforts to enforce the law and enhance public safety, a total of 419 violators of residency and labor laws were arrested during extensive security campaigns carried out by the General Department of Residency Affairs Investigations in various governorates during the period from April 6 to April 8.
