LOS ANGELES, Oct 5, (Agencies): Amid the recent controversy surrounding the NFL's decision to spotlight pop superstar Taylor Swift and her rumored relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, the league is standing by its choice to feature the celebrity couple on social media.
Swift, aged 33, made appearances at Kelce's last two games, one in Kansas City on September 24 and another in New York on a subsequent Sunday. These high-profile appearances prompted the NFL to showcase the "Anti-Hero" singer on their social media platforms. They even took the unusual step of modifying their Instagram bio to proudly proclaim, "The @Chiefs are now 2-0 with @TaylorSwift13 in attendance," alongside featuring photos of her as their Twitter header banner (formerly known as X).
In response to the criticism, the NFL issued a statement defending their actions. The statement explained, "We regularly update our bios and profile imagery to reflect current events in and around our games, as well as cultural phenomena. The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce situation represents a notable intersection of sports and entertainment, and we have embraced it in real-time, given the overwhelmingly positive reception from fans."
The statement concluded by emphasizing that the majority of the NFL's content remains centered around the game itself, its players, and various other initiatives. These include features such as the Toy Story Funday Football alternative broadcast, international games, and more, underscoring the league's commitment to its core activities alongside the occasional cultural moments that capture public attention.
