KUWAIT CITY, Jul 1: The Court of Cassation has sentenced an officer from the Ministry of Interior to 7 years in prison for assaulting a Bangladeshi man, leaving him paralyzed after the victim failed to wash his car.

The Public Prosecution charged the officer with assault, which resulted in the victim sustaining injuries that caused a permanent disability, estimated at a minimum of 50% of the body’s total capacity. Initially, the Criminal Court sentenced the officer to 10 years in prison. During the appeal, the accused denied the charges and his lawyer argued for acquittal, citing insufficient investigation and claiming the victim delayed reporting the incident and had fallen on his own due to a pre-existing injury. The lawyer also requested the suspension of the punishment.

Despite these arguments, the Court of Appeal found the evidence against the accused to be accurate, consistent, and credible, including witness testimonies, the victim’s account, and the forensic medical report. As a result, the Court of Appeal revised the sentence to 7 years of imprisonment with hard labor.
