Jeddah, Jan 10: A video circulating on the X platform and shared by Saudi media has sparked widespread controversy after a Saudi man publicly offered eight of his daughters as "gifts" to his eight guests during a social gathering.
In the video, the man is seen addressing his guests with lavish praise, describing them as "lions," "stallions," and "divorcees." He spoke about their noble lineage and heritage, stating, “We don’t know what to give you from the good. You are all Sheikhs and cousins with a history in pre-Islamic and Islamic eras.”
He concluded his speech by swearing "by divorce" that he would marry off any of his daughters to the guests who accepted his offer. The exchange ended with the men embracing and kissing each other, but the video quickly drew criticism and debate on social media platforms.
The act, seen by some as a cultural gesture, has been widely condemned by others for objectifying women and reducing marriage to a transactional gift. The incident has reignited discussions about traditional practices and the rights of women in Saudi Arabia
