KUWAIT CITY, Oct 30: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition’s Hawalli Governorate Inspection Department carried out a major inspection operation this week, uncovering a series of food safety violations across the governorate. Led by Hawalli Food Inspection Center Head Hanan Haji and Salmiya Inspection Center Head Jumana Bou Abbas, the operation targeted numerous food establishments to uphold food quality standards and public health.

Haji explained that under the directives of Dr. Reem Al-Fulaij, Director General of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, and the supervision of Abdullah Al-Kandari, Director of the Hawalli Governorate Inspection Department, the team conducted these inspections with the support of specialized technical staff. "Our mission is to strengthen control over food establishments to ensure food safety and quality across Hawalli,” she stated.

The inspection yielded significant results, including the seizure of 109.5 kilograms of adulterated meat and fish of unidentified origin. The seized products, falsely presented as fresh, were promptly destroyed. In addition, the team issued 27 violations and enforced three administrative closures.

Violations uncovered included failure to meet hygiene standards, the presence of cockroaches and insects, handling of adulterated food from unknown sources, improper thawing of frozen meat, and workers handling food without health certification proving fitness for food handling. Inspectors also noted cases of facilities operating without proper health licenses from the authority.

Commenting on the ongoing efforts, Bou Abbas emphasized the authority’s commitment to enforcing health standards for the safety of consumers in Kuwait. “We continue to implement effective control measures, regulations, and international standards through our dedicated administrative and technical teams,” she affirmed.

This latest inspection reflects the authority’s robust efforts to ensure the highest standards of food safety for residents and further underscores its commitment to public health
