KUWAIT CITY, March 18: The Emergency Police Department has released statistics revealing that, during a series of recent campaigns and checkpoints, seven individuals were referred to the General Department for Drug Control. These individuals were found either in possession of narcotics or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The department's operations, which included 1,117 security operations and checkpoints, resulted in the issuance of 8,851 traffic violations. This particular violation is considered serious and, under the new law, is punishable by a fine of 150 dinars if settled out of court. If the case is taken to court, the penalty could include imprisonment for a period of one to three years, a fine ranging from 600 to 1,000 dinars, or a combination of both penalties.
In addition, the emergency police arrested 20 individuals wanted by the authorities, 21 expatriates who were registered as absconders, 17 people found without identification, and 20 expatriates with expired residency.
Between the 5th and 9th of this month, the emergency police also responded to 111 traffic accidents and two run-over incidents. These cases were forwarded to the appropriate police stations for further investigation.
