Overstaying Hajj Pilgrims Face Fines and Legal Action, Saudi Ministry Warns

KUWAIT CITY, April 8: The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that April 13 will be the final date for pilgrims to enter the Kingdom for the Hajj season while April 29 is the last day for their departure. In a statement released on Monday by the Saudi Press Agency, the ministry warned that staying beyond the specified date will be considered a violation subjecting violators to legal penalties. The ministry urged individuals, Umrah companies and institutions to comply with the regulations and instructions regarding the departure of pilgrims on time. It clarified that any delay in departure -- beyond the deadline -- will be dealt with as a violation. Companies failing to report overstaying pilgrims may face fines of up to 100,000 Saudi Riyals; in addition to legal action against those responsible. Moreover, the Saudi Ministry of Interior stated that it will impose fines on any company or institution offering services to pilgrims if they fail to notify the relevant authorities about any pilgrim who does not depart by the end of their authorized stay period.
