POMONA, California, Nov 18: – A single-engine Piper PA-32 aircraft crashed near the Pomona Fairplex during the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Finals on Sunday morning, November 17, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. as the plane attempted to land at Brackett Field Airport, located near the event venue.
The aircraft collided with two parked vehicles near the dragstrip, causing significant damage. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among spectators or individuals on the ground.
Four people were aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash. Three were transported to a nearby hospital, with two reported in critical condition.
The NHRA Finals, which had been underway since Thursday, were temporarily paused to allow emergency responders to address the situation. Event organizers resumed the competition later in the day.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the crash to determine its cause. Preliminary reports suggest the accident occurred during a landing attempt.
