Preacher Acquitted of Hate Speech and Sectarian Incitement Allegations

KUWAIT CITY, Mar 5: The Criminal Court has reversed its previous in absentia ruling, which had sentenced a prominent preacher to seven years of hard labor and a fine of 100,000 dinars. Instead, the court has acquitted him of charges related to violating the National Unity Law, including accusations of inciting sedition and insulting the Shiite sect in the country.

The defendant was brought to trial after the Public Prosecution accused him of using his personal account on the "X" platform to publicly incite hatred and contempt toward a segment of society, as well as to provoke sectarian conflict. The Public Prosecution alleged that the accused had published tweets containing language intended to spread hatred and disdain for a specific group. Additionally, he was accused of publicly sharing opinions that mocked, belittled, and disparaged a religious sect by challenging its beliefs, practices, rituals, and teachings. Following the court's review of the case, the preacher was ultimately acquitted of all charges.
