KUWAIT CITY, Sep 8: Security personnel at the Central Prison successfully thwarted a new and innovative attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics and mobile phones into the prison using a drone in the early hours.

A security source revealed that after strict control over the prison, closing all possible smuggling loopholes through surprise inspections of the wards, and conducting daily self-checks on visitors, employees, and cleaners, the prison administration further strengthened security by setting up barriers and subjecting everyone entering the complex to rigorous inspections. Additionally, drug dealers were relocated to Prison 3, and stringent security measures were enforced, including the installation of jamming systems to disrupt telephone networks. Despite these precautions, unknown smugglers attempted to deliver narcotics and phones via a drone. The contraband, which included hashish, crystal meth, chemicals, and mobile phones, was dropped by the drone and swiftly confiscated by security personnel.

Investigations revealed that the smugglers deployed three drones. The first drone was used for survey/spying to ensure the absence of security personnel. The second drone, loaded with narcotics and mobile phones, was intended for the actual delivery. A third drone followed to monitor and ensure the delivery was not intercepted. Simultaneously, some inmates were instructed to start fights to distract the security staff while others attempted to retrieve the smuggled items. The prison administration quickly contacted the General Department for Combating Drugs to identify and arrest those responsible for launching the drones.

The source emphasized that security personnel at the General Department of Correctional Institutions are vigilant around the clock to protect inmates, maintain order, and prevent contraband from entering the facility.

The source further explained that surprise raids, rotating security officers' duties, relocating drug dealers to Prison 3, and tightening inspection protocols for everyone entering the prison, including officers and maintenance workers, have significantly contributed to making the facility almost free of contraband. However, drug dealers have resorted to using drones to smuggle illegal items into the prison from nearby areas at dawn, a method that has so far been unsuccessful, thanks to the vigilance of the prison security staff.
