KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: The recent statistics issued by the Ministry of Justice show 23,613 cases were received by the Public Prosecution between January 1 and August 31, which means that the Public Prosecution receives more than 98 cases on a daily basis, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The statistics show there were 3,137 felony cases, 531 murder and self-assault, 256 cases of kidnapping and forceful detention, 1,715 cases of drugs and psychotropic substances, 236 cases of assault on honor and reputation, in addition to 1,168 cases of assault on the property of others, and 2,351 banking frauds.

The statistics showed that commercial misdemeanor cases amounted to 4,283, while juvenile misdemeanor accounted for 1,126 cases, in addition to 1,801 check misdemeanor cases.

According to statistics, the number of environmental misdemeanor cases reached 5,762 cases, while information technology cases reached 2,514 cases, and drug addiction reached 990 cases.

Moreover, a source revealed the government intends to decide on a number of projects in order to accelerate the pace of completion of litigation procedures soon.

The source said that a project will be adopted to reduce the burden on the prosecution and the courts, avoid the accumulation of transactions and reduce the documentary cycle.

The source added that there is a desire to increase the number of judges. There are two problems that lie in the shortage of prosecutors and judges in parallel with the volume of work in the courts and the prosecution, due to the increase in the population, which has led to a noticeable increase in the number of pending cases and those received by the prosecution and the courts.

The source revealed a trend to infuse new blood into prosecutors, as the number of those accepted will increase by up to 30% in each batch.
