KUWAIT CITY, April 23: Al-Qadsiya Club has appointed Serbian coach Sinisa Relijec as the new head coach of its volleyball team, following the departure of Bahraini coach Redha Ali, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent with the club’s board of directors.
Relijec brings significant international experience to the role. His coaching resume includes leading the Serbian U-21 national team, as well as stints with Qatar and Lebanese club Al-Anwar. The club hopes his appointment will mark a turning point in their Premier Volleyball League campaign.
The coaching change comes in the wake of a disappointing 0-3 loss to Al-Arabi in the highly anticipated “Derby” match in the sixth round of the Premier League. In another match on the same day, Kuwait Club swept Al-Shabab 3-0.
Premier Volleyball League Standings after Round 6:
Burgan – 8 points, Kuwait Club – 7 points, Kazma – 6 points, Al-Arabi – 3 points
Al-Qadsiya – 3 points (lower set difference), Al-Shabab – 0 points
After winning its opening match against Al-Shabab, Al-Qadsiya suffered defeats to both Kazma and Al-Arabi. Its next challenge will be a tough clash against reigning champion Kuwait Club on Friday.
The seventh round of the Premier League kicks off today, with Al-Arabi facing league leaders Burgan at 5:00 pm, in a tightly contested matchup after strong showings from both teams. This will be followed at 7:00 pm by Kazma taking on bottom-ranked Al-Shabab in what is expected to be a more one-sided encounter.
