KUWAIT CITY, June 24: To address the ongoing teacher shortage, the Ministry of Education is considering reinstating experienced Kuwaiti educators who have retired or whose services have been previously terminated. This initiative aims to fill gaps, particularly in scientific subjects.

According to sources, relevant departments have finalized a report detailing the specializations needed and identifying former teachers who can be called back to service. The report is a response to the directives of Dr. Adel Al-Adwani, the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, who observed a critical shortage in teachers, especially in science-related fields.

Minister Al-Adwani has urged swift coordination with the Civil Service Commission to explore the feasibility of this plan. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the expertise of retired Kuwaiti educators to ensure the smooth progression of the educational process and to support national teaching staff.

In this context, specific criteria will be established for rehiring, such as the health fitness of the educators and ensuring that their previous termination was not due to disciplinary actions or criminal offenses involving dishonor or breach of trust.

Sources reveal that public education and administrative affairs sectors have identified 15 specializations where retired Kuwaiti educators could fill the current gaps. These specializations were highlighted in the local announcement for non-Kuwaiti teachers issued last March and include English, French, mathematics, science, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, philosophy, Arabic language, computers, social studies, Islamic education, decoration, and electricity.

This strategic move is expected to leverage the valuable experience of national educators to maintain the quality of education and address the immediate teacher shortage in Kuwait's schools.
